Sutton Creek Cattle Company is a partnership ranch located in Photograph of lassoing steer in yards at Sutton Creek Cattle CompanyBaker County, Oregon. Our Wagyu herd was moved here from Western Oregon in 2001 by Richard and Marcie Hammond. After managing the Wagyu for the Hammonds for three years, the herd was purchased by Ken, Julie and Jeff in 2004.

Ken Tew is the past president of the American Wagyu Association, and is employed at AG Insurance. Julie stays at the ranch and makes sure that everything gets fed, watered, maintained and the book work gets done! Jeff Penick is a Land man and owner of Phoenix Land Services Inc. He is a nation-wide traveller and is in charge of the promotion, marketing and financial aspects of Sutton Creek Cattle Company.

The origins of the herd are attributed to pioneers of the American Wagyu industry - Marcie and the late Richard Hammond. They became involved with the Wagyu in 1991, acquiring some of the finest genetics in the world and began raising Wagyu on their Silverton ranch in Oregon. As very active members of the American Wagyu Association, Marcie served many years on the board of directors, including president and secretary~treasurer. They hosted numerous field days and annual meetings and heavily supported the Association activities. Believing that Wagyu cattle could impact the American cattle industry, the Hammonds contributed substantially to the Wagyu cattle research at Washington Working cattle in yard on Sutton Creek Cattle CompanyState University by donating American Purebred bulls and semen. Their sincere belief in Wagyu cattle and their involvement in WSU and the American Wagyu Association have made a major contribution in making Wagyu cattle what they are today. Richard believed that the commercial cattleman must become involved in order for Wagyu breed to achieve their full potential. In 1999 they formed a partnership with Ken and Julie Barnes-Tew and Jeff Penick - Sutton Creek Cattle Company. Richard passed away unexpectedly in August of 2002. Marcie continued as an active partner and received an award in 2004 for the Most Purebreds Cattle >15/16 registered with the Association. Marcie recently retired to sunny Mexico but she still acts as consultant to the ranch. Ken, Julie and Jeff remain owners and operators of Sutton Creek Cattle Company and continue to pursue the Hammond's dream.

Ken, Julie and Jeff are all members of the Oregon Cattleman's Association and National Cattlemen's Beef Association.
We raise 100% fullblood and purebred Wagyu, selling bulls, heifers, cows, embryos and semen. We are a full service ranch, offering consulting to Angus/Wagyu breeders on Calf buy back programs, Wagyu Cattle, Embryos, Semen sales and AI service. As experienced ranchers, we operate an irrigated pasture ranch raising cattle and hay, horses, dogs, cats and kids.

Our Fullblood Wagyu (100%) are from excellent Japanese Photo of Wagyu feeder at Sutton Creek Cattle CompanyBloodlines. An embryo from Japan was purchased by the Hammond Ranch, and became the first full blood Wagyu female born in the U.S.A. This female is currently in our herd of fullbloods. Our purebreds are all high percentage Wagyu with 98% content and above.

We have bulls for sale - both fullblood and purebred. We sell them at 18 months & older, registered, semen tested and delivered up to 1 000 miles from  the ranch.

Most of our cattle are Gene star tested for both marbling and tenderness traits. Both fullblood and purebred embryos are available for purchase. We only freeze and sell #1's.

All of our female Wagyu - purebred and fullblood - are bred to fullblood bulls. Our Ranch has a USDA approved Embryo Quarantine Facility, approved for most countries in the world, including the European Union. We sell embryos world wide on a custom order basis. Costs vary depending on a particular country's protocol. Our embryos are designed for the person wanting to start a full blood herd.
